Challenge being addressed


The control of heat flow is central to many technologies. Unfortunately, no effective tools for thermal measurement at the nanoscale can be currently considered as fully established. The development, improvement and optimization of systems in fields as diverse as microelectronics, micro- and nano-systems (MEMS/NEMS) and new energy-recovery or energy-conversion devices (e.g. thermoelectricity) require thermal properties to be meticulously controlled at the micro- and nanoscales.

The QUANTIHEAT project aims at understanding and managing heat transfer, crucial for modern technologies incorporating nanocomponents and nanostructured materials. The project aims also at bringing to a useful stage thermal nanometrology and at delivering validated standards, methods and modeling tools for nanothermal design and measurement.
